The aggressive batsman was sent back to the pavilion by Tim Southee, trapped leg before wicket. After the dismissal, Kohli went for a review, but it proved unsuccessful.

Even before ball-tracking came on, it looked like Kohli was a goner and soon, hawk-eye confirmed that the ball would have gone on to hit the middle of middle.

So far Kohli has used Decision Review System (DRS) on 13 occasions in the longest format of the game after being given out LBW, and only two of them have turned out to be successful.

Kohli, who has managed to score just 48 runs in his last five innings in international cricket, is now being highly criticised on social media platforms for wasting review, with some even terming it as a “ego review” from Kohli.

Overal it was the seventh time during the ongoing tour of New Zealand that the India skipper failed to reach 20. He lasted just 15 deliveries at Hagley Oval on Saturday, and has not scored a century in his last 21 innings. His last three-figure score came in the day-night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata when he scored 136.
