Umar Akmal’s naked outburst a misunderstanding: PCB
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday has published a statement on the Umar Akmal incident, in which they informed that they have concluded their proceedings into the alleged misconduct involving star cricketer Umar Akmal during a fitness test a few days back.
In the statement PCB also claimed that the reason behind the happening of the incident was “misunderstanding”.
ESPNCricinfo reported earlier this month that Akmal had exposed himself to a trainer during his fitness test out of frustration and asked him, “Where is the fat?”
As soon as the news spread, the younger of the Akmal brothers became the talk of the town, and later he appeared in front of an inquiry committee formed by board.
The misunderstanding line, however, was one Umar’s elder brother Kamran Akmal had put forward after the incident. He said that Umar had done it out of mischief.
“I don’t think anything like that happened. If something like this happened then they should call the parties involved. As I said, I believe no arguments occurred. This was a total misunderstanding. The trainer and Umar are good friends. They have studied in the same school,” said Kamran Akmal.
The PCB in their inquiry heard all parties concerned and eventually came to the conclusion that the incident happened due to a misunderstanding.
“After Umar Akmal offered his regrets for his actions, the PCB reprimanded him and also reminded him of his responsibilities as a senior cricketer,” the statement said.
It further added, “The matter is now closed. The PCB and Umar Akmal will offer no further comments.”
Umar Akmal last appeared in Pakistan jersey in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2019 at home. Both he and his elder brother failed in the fitness test.
