Umpire Nigel Llong in hot water after ‘door-kicking’
English umpire Nigel Llong, while officiating in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium reportedly lost his cool and got involved in a bustling deed in the umpires’ room.
According to a reports published in the Deccan Herald, the incident took place during the innings break when Llong, who is one of the members of the International Cricket Council Elite Panel of umpires, damaged the door of the umpire’s room by kicking and shouted at people in the room.
It is also read that a report will be sent to the BCCI’s Committee of Administration for “appropriate action”.
Llong was visibly agitated after a senior RCB player advised him to be focused after the Englishman wrongly adjudged Umesh Yadav’s delivery as a no-ball for overstepping.
R Sudhakar Rao, the KSCA secretary commented saying,
“It was an unfortunate incident. As the state association, we are duty-bound to report it. We are writing to the COA today.”
“We have reported the matter to the Committee of Administrators (COA) and hopefully action will be taken against Nigel Llong. If the players are punished for their misdemeanor and fined their match fees then why not the umpires,” he said.
Llong has stood in 56 Tests, 123 ODIs and 32 T20 Internationals in his career and will be standing in the upcoming World Cup in the United Kingdom, starting May 30.
