“It was ‘unbelievable’. To be frank, I didn’t expect it to be happening so soon. However, I am happy to be in the squad,” speaking exclusively over the telephone from Hungama (District: Hambantota), he said.

“Now with my hard and sincere work I will try to cement my place in the team,” he further added.

Madushanka will be leaving for Kandy on Wednesday to join the training squad. Players will train at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium from November 13-22.

Madushanka, who has studied up to Grade 11 (Ordinary Levels) and now only concentrating on building a career in cricket has played three first class matches so far. His elder brother, Sudesh Nirmal plays with the soft ball. His younger brother Nipun is studying in Class X. Their father Sujith Krishantha is a fisherman.

Interestingly, Dilshan was personally informed about his inclusion by the national head coach Mickey Arthur.

The 22-member squad has ‘unofficially’ been discussed with the chief selector Ashantha De Mel. Lankan sports minister is yet to name the new selection committee. The term for the last selectors ended on August 5.

All selected training players are given the schedules of their PCR tests they would do and also explained the quarantine rules.
