Uncapped pace trio in Bangladesh preliminary Test squad

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 21-member preliminary squad for the two Test matches in Sri Lanka.

Four uncapped players are pace trio of Shoriful Islam, Mukidul Islam Mugdho and Shohidul Islam, and batsman Yasir Ali Rabbi.

Shoriful made his T20I debut during the New Zealand tour. While, Mukidul Islam Mugdho took the headlines, picking 12 wickets in a game for Rangpur Division in the NCL.

All-rounder Shuvagata Hom, wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan and pacer Khaled Ahmed have earned recalls to the side. Shuvagata scored a hundred and took a four-for in a match for Dhaka Division.

Senior player Mahmudullah Riyad, who last played a Test in January 2020, has not made the cut due to a thigh strain.

The final squad will be named in Sri Lanka.

“We have decided to take the preliminary squad to Sri Lanka as it would help our preparation and also give exposure to a number of players who are in our thinking for the longer version going forward,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.

Pallekele International Stadium will host the first Test from April 21 and the second from the 29th. The Tigers will play a two-day intra-squad practice game before the last World Test Championship 2019-21 series.  

Bangladesh preliminary Test squad: Mominul Haque (captain), Liton Kumar Das, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal Khan, Shadman Islam, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Taijul Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Mohammed Saif Hassan, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Shoriful Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Mukidul Islam Mugdho, Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury, Shohidul Islam, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan.

April 12: Bangladesh will leave for Sri Lanka
April 17-18: Intra-squad warm-up, Katunayake
April 21-25: 1st Test, Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy
April 29-May 3: 2nd Test, Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy
May 4: Bangladesh will return home
