Unilever to sponsor Bangladesh cricket team till 2020
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has signed a contract with a Prominent consumer goods company ‘Unilever Bangladesh Limited’ as the new sponsor of Bangladesh National Cricket Team. BCB confirmed at the press conference held in BCB Media on Thursday just ahead of the Unimoni Asia Cup-2018. [বাংলায় পড়ুন: ২০২০ সাল পর্যন্ত বিসিবির সাথে থাকবে ইউনিলিভার]
Journey of Unilever with Bangladesh national cricket team will start with the Asia Cup 2018 in UAE later this month where their logo of its product Lifebuoy will be attached on the Bangladesh National Team kit. This sponsor includes both the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men’s and Women’s), Bangladesh A Team and the Bangladesh Under-19 Team till 31 January 2020.
BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury and Unilever Bangladesh’s Finance Director Zahidul Islam Malita were present During signing the agreement at the BCB Management Office at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka.
“Unilever is an internationally renowned brand with a proven track record. On behalf of the BCB I thank Unilever Bangladesh for coming forward and taking the initiative to contribute to cricket. This ushers a fresh promise and opens a new door of long-term cooperation and relationship.”
In a statement Unilever Bangladesh’s Marketing Director Nafees Anwar stated:
“It gives us immense pleasure to become National Team Sponsor partners of the BCB. Unilever has a history of contributing to the country’s socio-economic development while establishing its own business footprint. Our projects Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital, Fair & Lovely Foundation Scholarship, Rin Career Academy, Surf Excel Mathsala, Vaseline Healing Project and Lifebuoy Hand Wash School Program have impacted the masses and have helped people get more out of life. We want to carry this philosophy with our association with cricket which is undoubtedly the most popular sport in the country.”
It is to mention that Unilever Bangladesh has successfully presumed into patronising sports in Bangladesh recent times. The multinational company was one of the sponsors of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20’s Dhaka Dynamites franchise in last year and had organised the Clear Men Under 17 Football Tournament across the country.
Though earlier Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon had indicated that the Board will not be going for a long-term contract. BCB has plans to contract under short-term competition / series wise But finally BCB connected with Unilever for a long term sponsorship.
