AB de Villiers struck a 37-ball 71, but only one stroke off Dilbar Hussain left the Melbourne crowd in awe. The drama took place during the 18th over of the Heat innings when the AB de Villiers got deep into his crease on a full-length ball from Hussain and then launched it towards the long-on boundary for a six.

The Heat posted 186-5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their bowlers were at the impressive best throughout the match as James Pattinson (2/17), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2/11) and Mitchell Swepson (3/31) helped the opposition team Stars bundle out for paltry 115 in 17.4 overs.
