Video: De Villiers and Steyn involved in funny confrontation in MSL
AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn had made their Test debut in the same match back in 2004. They share a great deal of camaraderie between each other both on and off the field. Earlier, both were having fun in the same dressing room in South Africa. However, after Steyn’s retirement, they both were not seen together. But this time around, the two legends came opposite each other in Cape Town and it turned to be a hilarious confrontation.
It happened during the 22nd match of the ongoing second season of the Mzansi Super League between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans, Tshwane Spartans batsman AB de Villiers and Cape Town Blitz fast bowler Dale Steyn stole the spotlight during the passage of play as they had the funniest confrontation.
It all happened on the third ball of the 14th over when AB de Villiers smashed Steyn delivery back to him. With Dale Steyn not collecting the ball cleanly, it was de Villiers who collected the ball and then returned it to the bowler.
Dale Steyn, who gave the initial impression of having some real fun with his dear friend, threw the ball back towards the stumps and hilariously appealed to the square-leg umpire over a run-out.
With de Villiers again picking the ball up and returning it to Dale Steyn, he finally grabbed it and started walking back.
Chasing a 158, Spartans were restricted to a modest 142/7 in 20 overs as the hosts chipped in with a 15-run victory. With impressive bowling figures of 4-0-10-3, Steyn was the best bowler for his team. It was Steyn who got de Villiers (31) out in the 14th over itself.
After Blitz skipper Quinton de Kock won the toss and elected to bat, his team posted 157/5 in 20 overs with the help of batsman David Bedingham’s third T20 half-century, 53 (40).
