Amidst the initial disaster of losing 2 openers in just 8 runs, an 86 run third wicket partnership between Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya Sarkar recovered Bangladesh’s innings. Soumya got out in his 40s but Riyad continued to rock on the ground. With 7 fours and 2 sixes, Mahmudullah Riyad fulfilled the long cherished dream of scoring a hundred in a world cup match by any Bangladeshi batsman.

The quick departure of Shakib tensed the millions of followers in and outside the country but Mushfiqur Rahim along with unbeaten Riyad continued the fight. Mushfiq’s fiery knock of 89 playing just 77 balls contains 8 fours and a six. Sabbir Rahman also contributed well in the tail end and Bangladesh ended up in a competent total of 277 runs.

Chasing 277 runs was never been easy for England. They lost wickets at regular intervals. The first to go was Moin Ali who initially escaped from a leg before wicket shout by Rubel Hossain, ran out by a timely throw of Soumya Sarkar. The fifty runs partnership in the second wicket was shaken by tiger skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

Afterwards Rubel Hossain struck twice in an over and England’s middle order batting line up was almost ruined. Youngsters Taskin Ahmed also picked up a quick wicket. The 75 run 7th wicket partnership brought some hope for the English Lions before half centurion Joss Butler was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off the delivery of Taskin.

The 8th wicket of England went with much drama when a long throw of Shakib Al Hasan shook the bales of Jordan’s stump that was desperate to save the ground. After a much long review the third umpire delivered him as ran out.

The 49th over of the match belongs to Rubel Hossain; Rubel uprooted the stumps of both Broad and Anderson to run the ultimate celebration of the match for the tigers.
