Video: Mayank Agarwal emulates Kapil Dev’s Natraj shot
India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev might have retired from the game of cricket but he is still living in our hearts. During his playing days, he was well-known for playing his trademark ‘Natraj’ shot. Now, Mayank Agarwal brought back some of Kapil Dev’s old memories by emulating Natraj shot against New Zealand in the warm-up game.
During the Day 2 of the first warm-up game of ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand which is being held in Hamilton, India’s opening batsman Mayank Agarwal stole the spotlight after he pulled off a Natraj shot with much ease.
Agarwal played that shot on the first ball of the sixth over when Agarwal smashed Scott Kuggeleijn’s bowling on the leg-side for an impressive six. Though Mayank Agarwal didn’t lift his front leg, he was a tad close as to how Kapil Dev used to play the shot.
Agarwal went about his business to help India provide a quickfire start in the last half hour of the second day. In the previous day, India scored 59/0 in seven overs at Stump’s yesterday and went on to score 252/4 in 48 overs.
Agarwal played brilliant innings when it mattered the most as he scored 81 (99) with the help of 10 fours and three maximums before retiring out.
