Video: Sri Lankan players undergo ‘2 KM Run Fitness Test’
Sri Lankan players underwent the new ‘2 KM Run Fitness Test’ today in Colombo. 32 players took part in the test and 28 of them passed the fitness Test.
The ‘2KM Run Fitness Test’ is the new fitness Test around the game now. Earlier BCCI announced that the Test is compulsively for the Indian players to make it into the national side. Following them, Sri Lanka cricket also announced the same decision to improve the fitness standards of the players.
The fitness test is all about running a 2 km distance within 8 minutes and 35 seconds. According to Sri Lanka Cricket, all the players should pass the test to get themselves on the national side. In case a player gets failed in the test, he will be given a second chance to pass the test within 40 days of time.
‘’Going forward, we will adjust the scores as we get better and become world-class. The Bowlers, Batsmen, and the Wicket Keepers will be given different time targets,’ said Grant Luden, Physical Performance Manager of Sri Lanka Cricket.
“If a player fails, he can do another test within 40 days, and our idea is to achieve the minimum fitness standards before the T20 world cup, which will be played later this year,’’ added Luden.
Earlier today in Colombo, Sri Lankan cricketers underwent the fitness Test. A total of 32 cricketers who are on the probable list for the Caribbean tour took part in the test. According to reliable sources, 28 players successfully completed the test and 4 players will be going for a second chance.
Lahiru Thirimanne didn’t take part in the test as he is recovering from coronavirus contraction. Dhananjaya de Silva and Avishka Fernando are undergoing rehabilitation from their injuries and they will undergo it once they completely recovered. The right-handed batsman Kusal Mendis missed the fitness Test as he was having his wedding on the same day.
