Video: Zampa frightens Brisbane Heat mascot
During the fifth game of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at the Carrara Oval, Melbourne Stars spinner Adam Zampa stole the spotlight as he seemed to have teased the hosts’ mascot.
The drama unfolded on the very second ball of the second over when Brisbane Heat franchise batsman Tom Banton attempted for a sweep off Sandeep Lamichhane’s spin bowling towards deep square leg.
However, with no fielder at the boundary line, the shot was certain to race towards the ropes. Adam Zampa who was fielding just inside the circle on the leg-side region ran all the way to the boundary to collect the ball.
While Brisbane Heat’s mascot was sitting near the boundary rope, he hardly made an effort to throw the ball inside the playing area. It was when Adam Zampa decided to show the funny side of him. The spinner himself gave an impression of scaring the mascot as he collected the ball and gestured as if he was about to throw the ball towards the mascot.
Tom Banton, who opened the batting with Max Bryant (6), chipped in with a half-century to put his team in a strong position during a 168-run chase. Banton took the opposition attack to cleaners as he ended up scoring 64 (36). His knock included six fours and four sixes.
After Heat captain Chris Lynn won the toss and invited Stars to bat first the opposition skipper, Glenn Maxwell scored 83 (39), scoring seven fours and five sixes on his T20 comeback to steer his team to 167/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
