Virat Kohli becomes quickest captain to score 9000 international runs

On the night of breaking another barrier, an unstoppable Virat Kohli has attained the record of becoming the fastest player to compile 9000 international runs as a captain.

The present Indian skipper is only the sixth captain to score 9000 international runs. He achieved the feat in the second limited over match of the series against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. He reached into the feat when he was batting at 22 runs.

Kohli took 159 innings to race to the milestone eclipsing all the captains in international arena thus far. Brian Lara with 7000 runs in 164 innings is the second best in the list. Graeme Smith (220 innings), MS Dhoni (253), Allan Border (257), Stephen Fleming (272) are the other former captains in the tally.

The Indian captain also scored his 32nd century during the match. He is second after Sachin Tendulkar (49) in the all-time list of most ODI centuries.

The 30 year old has already crossed 10000 runs in ODI cricket while also owns over 6600 Test runs.

He recently went past Indian legend, Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest to score 10000 runs in One day internationals.

Kohli scored 44 runs in the first ODI as India lead the five-match series 1-0. India retained the team winning the opening game in Hyderabad by six wickets to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.
