Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli made history during the RCB vs PBKS IPL 2022 game on Friday by becoming the first-ever batsman to score 6500 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. 
Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli on Friday became the first batsman to hit 6,500 runs in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-hander managed the feat in the ongoing game against the Punjab Kings at Brabourne Stadium.
The former RCB skipper managed 6,500 runs in his 220th game in the cash-rich league. In the ongoing contest, Kohli brought up RCB's opening innings feat, which was bowled by Harpreet Brar.
Prior to that game, Kohli had 6,499 runs in 219 games for an IPL average of 36.31.
The batter's best performance in the league came in 2016 when he hit 973 runs. In that particular season, Kohli beat four centuries and helped RCB reach the finals. In the summit battle, the team failed against SunRisers Hyderabad.
Speaking about the ongoing season, Kohli started batting at No. 3 and he had registered back-to-back ducks against Lucknow Super Giants and SunRisers Hyderabad.
After that, Kohli started opening for the franchise and in the game against the Gujarat Titans he played a shot of 58 runs, 53 balls. In the next game against the Chennai Super Kings, Kohli hit 30 runs with 33 balls.
Prior to RCB's final game against SRH, Kohli needed just one run to hit 6,500 runs, but he fell on the very first ball of the game, bowled by Jagadeesha Suchith.
The batsman would hope to return to his fluid self to help RCB reach the playoff stage.
Speaking of international cricket, Kohli had last scored an international ton in a day-night friendly against Bangladesh in 2019 and he has eluded the triple-digit mark since.
