VPL T10 league to start on May 22
St Vincent and Grenadines Cricket Association has announced its new tournament T10 league. It has named the Vincy Premier League (VPL).
The tournament will consist 6 teams and the game will start on May 22 to until May 30, 2020. The games will take place at the Arnos Valley Sporting Complex ground. The teams are named after the tourist attraction sites in St. Vincent.
Similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 72 players were drafted in in the format. Due to Corona virus pandemic the cricket world has come to a standstill. Despite the reverse atmosphere for Cricket, Dr. Kishore Shallow, the president of the SVGCA) sounded pretty optimistic about the tournament to happen.
“It is an exciting time for cricket in SVG, I can feel the buzz of sports enthusiasts who are thirsty for some cricket and sports,” Dr Shallow was quoted.
“We came up with this T10 franchise format because of the absence of sports content at this point, and thought that this brand of cricket would be enticing to cricket fans across the globe in a short duration. The competition will be over a 10-day period, and all 30 matches will be streamed live,”
The tournament will consist of a number of international cricketers, including Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy and Sunil Ambris from West Indies national team. Keron Cottoy, who was a part of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the last CPL will also be seen in the tournament.
Kesrick Williams is also the marquee player for the Botanical Gardens Rangers, was excited by how things have panned.
“It was great being part of the draft. Though it got tense at times, because we all wanted to secure the best players and team composition, it was really an enjoyable experience,” Williams mentioned.
Apart from Williams, McCoy, Ambris and Cottoy, the other marquee players are Lindon James and Desron Maloney.
