Despite not performing at his best, Soumya Sarkar managed himself to get a place into the 15-man World Cup, but the tension kept rising as he was failing to deliver in the ongoing DPL.

But the dynamic batsman answered his critics in style and hit top form at the right moment. He went onto score 106 against Rupganj and followed that with a record-breaking unbeaten 208* against Sheikh Jamal to clinch the title yet again for Abahani.

Soumya became the first ever Bangladeshi to score a double hundred in List-A cricket and 28th overall to achieve this feat. From scoring 10s and 20s to 100s and 200s, how the left-handed batsman regained his lost confidence out of nowhere?

Abahani’s overseas recruit Wasim Jaffer, who is known as the legend of India’s domestic cricket played a big role to help Soumya regain his confidence.

Jaffer, who has 19,147 first-class runs and 4,745 runs in List-A cricket under his belt revealed that how he help Soumya to get back into the track.

“For the last couple of matches I am looking at him closely from the sidelines. I noticed a few things about his batting and then I asked the coach if I can have a look at him before the Rupganj game.”

“I worked out on some of his technical things but most importantly I tried to work out on the mental side of his batting. When you are not scoring runs, a lot of things go around your mind and it prevents you from taking a positive approach because you are not thinking in the right process all the time.”

“The good thing is that whatever I told him he tried to implement in the middle and on a good batting track, he made the most out of it. I think these two centuries will do a world of good for him ahead of the World Cup,” Jaffer said.

Meanwhile, the record-breaker Soumya also had words of praise for the Indian batsman and said he tried to follow his instructions.

“I have seen his (Jaffer) batting very closely. He is a very good and experienced player. He scored 40 thousand runs in his career. Since he scored such amount of runs, so he definitely has the quality, I have understood how he thinks in the field and outside the field. I also follow his way of batting. I talked with him about this, nothing more than that and just tried to follow his instructions,” he said.
