Wasim Jaffer the next batting coach in Tests for Bangladesh?

Indian veteran batsman Wasim Jaffer came to Bangladesh to play Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for Abahani Ltd few days ago at the age of 41. He scored just 8 runs in the first match against Brothers Union. But after that, ha has been in super form. He scored 76,94 and 38 runs in the next three match.

Wasim Jaffer playing a shot for Abahani in DPLWasim Jaffer took the attention of many as before him, no player played in any club cricket of Dhaka at this age.

Before Wasim Jaffer, two Pakistani batsman Kamal Merchant and Monirul Haque played for Abahani at the age of near 40. These two famous faces of Pakistani domestic cricket came Bangladesh long ago in 90’s.

However, Wasim Jaffer being the main man for Abahani gradually despite there are many superstars like Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mossadek Hossain, Jahurul Islam etc. Because he’s in nice form in this year’s DPL and made much headache for the bowlers.

Abahani’s coach Khaled Mahmud Sujan is much satisfied with his performance for Abahani. He said, “We’re successful because he (Wasim Jaffer) fulfills our expectations. Gradually he’s understanding our conditions and opponent’s bowlers. And he’s performing accordingly.”

However, Khaled Mahmud isn’t just the coach of Abahani, he’s also the director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the chairman of Games Development Committee. And that’s why he informed some interesting news.

The question was, “Australian, South African and English players came here to give tips to our batsman. But their conditions and our conditions aren’t same rather it’s totally different. Despite of this, an experienced sub-continent player like Wasim Jaffer, who’d been successful in the longest format of the cricket too can be appointed as the mentor of young generation of Bangladesh cricket. Isn’t it the best for them?”

Khaled Mahmud replied, “Not in academy or high performance unit, we’re thinking him to appoint as the batting coach of Bangladesh Test Cricket Team.” He didn’t want to tell more about this.

So, it clearly indicates that as there is no batting coach in the test format for Bangladesh currently, BCB thinks to appoint Wasim Jaffer as the batting coach. If he agrees, he will be next batting coach of Bangladesh Test Cricket Team surely.

Wasim Jaffer is the sixth player in the history of Indian domestic cricket who has more than 18,000 runs. Even two Indian legends Dilip Vengsarkar (17,868 runs) and Gundappa Viswanath (17,970 runs) have less runs than him.

Also he’s in the top five list in the first class cricket of India. He’s at no. 5 position with 19,147 runs standing beside the legend like Sunil Gavaskar (25,834 runs), Sachin Tendulkar (25,396 runs), Rahul Dravid (23,794 runs), V.V.S Laxman (19,730 runs) and Vijay Merchant Hazare (18,740 runs).

So, there is no doubt that he’s vast experienced, skillful and successful in test cricket. How to play in the sub-continent conditions, which ball to play and which ball to defend he knows it very well obviously. So, can he be the solution of batting in tests for Bangladesh cricket? All has to wait some more days to know the answer.
