Watch: AB de Villiers goes berserk on Middlesex debut
There was no toast of entertainment for the fans after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup and just as when the cricket fraternity was eagerly waiting for some excitement, former South African batsman AB De Villiers stole the spotlight in England’s domestic T20 competition Vitality Blast.
He might have retired from international cricket but he has never ceased to amass the fans world wide. Superman De Villiers who has got a wide range of shots under his belt made an impressive debut. The moment he walked out to bat, the fans cheered for him. AB de Villiers went about his business at the need of the hour as he played a match-winning cameo of 88 runs for Middlesex on Thursday.
What really was pleasing to the fans’ eyes was that AB de Villiers constantly whacked Essex bowlers all around the park as he managed to score 88 runs off just 43 balls. He was so good that he was smashing the balls at a strike-rate of little more than 200.
AB de Villiers’ knock helped Middlesex to register an easy victory by seven wickets with still three overs to spare.
Chasing the target of 165, Middlesex didn’t have the best of start as they lost their first two wickets early on in the game for just 39 runs on the board. Then AB de Villiers came out to bat at No.4 and he along with Dawid Malan forged a 105-run stand to take Middlesex closer to glory.
Malan got out after playing scoring a decent 43 runs, but de Villiers ensured to help the team get past the finishing line.

Previously, after being put in to bat, Essex kept losing wickets and thankfully, Dutch player Ryan ten Doeschate steadied the ship by chipping in with a knock of 74 runs as the team was able to set a target of 165.
