Apart from the batting collapse, Australia faced another unexpected situation in the form of a brutal injury to their wicket keeper Alex Carey. The left-handed batsman took a injury on his chin of a brutal bouncer from Jofra Archer.

Carey immediately signalled towards the dressing room. It was a nasty short ball from Archer which kept climbing onto the left-hander giving him no chance to react. Carey did all he could, hopped across, dropped his wrists and managed to drop the ball to the off-side – such was the impact, but he ended up with the helmet in his hands.

Alex Carey immediately started bleeding from his chin as the Australian physio rushed to the ground to take care of the batsman. Medical staff put a plaster on Carey, and he rapidly returned to the crease.
