Watch: Ashwin emulates Tahir’s celebration after taking 2 wickets in 2 balls
Ravichandran Ashwin almost paid a tribute to MS Dhoni and then emulated Imran Tahir’s celebration and after which he had performed premature celebration like Mushfiqur Rahim. All these three scenes came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final where Karnataka won by 1 run on Sunday. Ravi Ashwin played really well with the bat and with the ball and his emotions got the better of himself.
In fact, it was Ashwin who first tilted the match on team’s favour by taking the wickets of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal off consecutive deliveries in the 5th over and after which he performed Imran Tahir’s celebration by running around the ground in extreme happiness.

It was when the skipper Manish Pandey came out to bat and was looking good from the word go. He held the nerves and played a match-winning knock of 40-ball 65 with the help of 4 fours and a couple of big hits and helped Karnataka post a mammoth total of 180/5 in their 20 overs, with Ravi Ashwin being the best pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 2/34.
Karnataka bowlers did a fair job in dismissing top batsmen of Tamil Nadu. However, the game was still alive with sufficient batsmen at the crease. Vijay Shankar and Baba Aparajith made sure to stretch the game towards the end but Aparajith got out in the 40s.
With Tamil Nadu needing 13 runs to win off the last over, Ravichandran Ashwin was on strike to bowler Krishnappa Gowtham. Vijay Shankar who was batting well on 43, was at the other end, with Ravi Ashwin having rejected his call for a double off the last ball of the 19th over.
Ashwin went about his business and smashed 2 fours in 2 balls off Gowtham’s bowling which reminded us of MS Dhoni who used to play calm under pressure. However, Ashwin celebrated early which reminded us of Mushfiqur Rahim’s celebration in 2016 against India. After a dot ball, Ashwin took a single and then Shankar was on strike. However, he was run out off the penultimate ball.
With Tamil Nadu needing 3 runs to win off the last ball, Murugan Ashwin scored only 1 run as he couldn’t connect the ball properly. Karnataka sealed the thriller in the last ball.

After the match, Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter to express his opinion about the match.
It’s so hard to wake up after games like what we had last night, #KarVsTN and to play a game of such intensity in the domestic circuit is a delight to say the least. Well done again to both teams. 👏👏
