It was an AB de Villiers (90 not out off 39 balls) show that not only lit up the M Chinnaswamy Stadium but also helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Delhi Daredevils by six wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday.
Chasing 175 for victory, Bangalore lost their openers early but De Villiers and RCB captain Virat Kohli (30) steadied the innings and took the team forward.
The South African superstar, who was adjudged the man of the match, played nonchalantly and did not let the opposition bowlers settle down. After this win, RCB are placed fifth, while Delhi are placed last.
Earlier, Mighty innings from Shreyas Iyer (52) and Rishabh Pant (85) helped Delhi Daredevils post a competitive total of 174/5 in 20 overs.
Put into the bat first, the hosts were in total control as they did not let the visitors have a solid start to their innings. Both openers Gautam Gambhir and Jason Roy looked out of form and did not pose much threat as they departed cheaply for 3 and 5 respectively.
While RCB controlled the momentum of the game, Iyer and Pant steadied the Delhi innings and strung a 75-run partnership as they took the attack to the opposition. Iyer looked in top-form but was dismissed by a brilliant Washington Sundar delivery. However, Pant carried on the onslaught as he changed his gears soon.
After Iyer was dismissed, Pant stitched together a 65-run partnership with Rahul Tewatia and was sending the bowlers on a leather hunt. Few costly overs in the death helped Delhi post a competitive target.
The RCB bowling department was on-point yet again but lost their plot towards the end. For the hosts, Yuzvendra Chahal finished with figures of 2/22, while Anderson, Washington and Umesh Yadav picked up a wicket each.
