Bravo 94* powers magical run-chase

Darren Bravo’s incredible hitting has given Trinbago Knight Riders a five-wicket win in run-fest against St Lucia Stars in the ninth match of Caribbean Premier League at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet. St Lucia are now winless for last 15 games.

Chasing 213, TKR made relatively slow start with both openers – Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn failing to reach double figures. New Zealand mates Colin Munro and Brendon McCullum made recovery from early blows. Munro made 25 runs.

Then arrived Darren Bravo who also took time before he blasted. St Lucia were more likely break their losing streak at a stage when Trinbago required 85 runs off the last five overs. Bravo took the charge immediately from the 16th over as he smashed opposition captain Kieron Pollard for 32 runs including five sixes.

McCullum and Bravo took 21 and 27 off the next two overs bowled by Obed McCoy and Rahkeem Cornwall respectively, making it 80 runs from three overs. The pair added game-changing 137 runs for the fourth-wicket. McCullum scored 36-ball 68 runs with 3 fours and 6 sixes.

Mitchell McClenaghan struck twice in the 19th over including McCullum’s wicket when TKR required 5 off two overs. But it was too late as the Knight Riders whirled to victory with a ball in hand. Bravo remained unbeaten on 94 runs from 36 deliveries. He dispatched 6 fours and 10 sixes in his career-best knock.

Earlier, St Lucia Stars posted 212/2 on board after sent in to bat. David Warner finally got runs with the bat as he carried the bat scoring 72 off 55 with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Pollard clubbed seven sixes (and a four) in his 23-ball unbeaten 65-run cameo. Cornwall wa also among the runs, 53 off 29.

Warner and Pollard jointly slammed 82 runs off the last five overs to take their side over 200. TKR captain Dwayne Bravo went for 50 runs in his four overs.

It was only the second time a 200-plus total had been chased down in CPL, both in this year. A total of 34 sixes were hit in the match, which equals the record in T20s.
