Nutmegs are a common scenario in football, but how often do you see a nutmeg in cricket? Well, English wicket-keeper Jos Buttler produced a brilliant nutmeg run-out to dismiss Steve Smith.

A throw from Buttler passed through Smith’s legs and hit the stumps. Smith was well short of the crease and was dismissed for well-made 83 in the end. With his brilliant knock, Australia reached to a fighting total of 223 runs.

After the throw, the England vice-captain said with a laugh that ‘it went through his legs’ as he celebrated the wicket.

It happened with Australia 217-7 at the start of the 47th over, Smith facing up to Chris Woakes first ball. The ball trickled down towards Bairstow and Smith called a single, but Buttler raced back and was able to fire it back down to the non-striker’s end as it clattered the stumps before Smith could ground his bat.
