Watch: “C’mon Chandi, throw your wicket away,” Root asks and Chandimal gifts it
Sri Lankan stand-in skipper Dinesh Chandimal threw away his wicket after his counterpart asked for a wicket in the second innings.
England’s short outing in Sri Lanka is heading towards the conclusion, as the second and final Test of the series has started at Galle. At the moment, the visitors are inching towards a fascinating Test series win in Sri Lanka.
By the end of day three, England were 339/9, trailing by 42 runs. England skipper departed just before the close of play on day three. Sri Lankan bowlers were quick enough to get the last England wicket on day four morning. As a result, England were bowled out for 344 in their first innings and conceded a lead of 37 runs.
The hosts were in a commanding position to start the second innings. But England bowlers made a twist in the tale as Sri Lankan batsmen were collapsed in the morning session itself. With a crucial 40 runs from Lasith Embuldeniya, Sri Lanka managed to score 126 runs in the second innings.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s stand-in skipper Dinesh Chandimal lost his wicket cheaply, going for a slog sweep off Jack Leach’s bowling. Prior to the wicket ball, England skipper Joe Root who was at first slip tried to head into the mind of his counterpart.
“Come on Chandi, Throw Your Wicket Away,” England skipper was recorded behind the stumps. In the very next minute, Chandimal slogged the ball and James Anderson made no mistake to grab the ball.
