Watch: De Villiers’s 100 off just 50 balls against Dhaka Dynamites

Rangpur Riders have gone on to top the points table after a thumping eight-wicket win over Dhaka Dynamites at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Reigning champions Riders have 12 points from ten matches while Dynamites slipped down to fourth place having ten points from nine games. They have lost three matches in a row. On the other hand, Rangpur have their fourth straight win.

Chasing a target of 187 in match no. 34, Alex Hales and AB de Villiers hit unbroken 184-run stand for the third-wicket, the third-highest partnership in BPL, to carry Rangpur home with 10 balls to spare.

Andre Russell dismissed Chris Gayle (1) and in-form Rilee Rossouw (0) on consecutive balls with bouncers in the second over. de Villiers got off the mark smashing Russell’s bouncer on his hat-trick delivery.

Both batsmen went all out attack against Dynamites bowlers as they reached half-century marks. Hales, who scored a ton in the previous game against Chittagong Vikings, carried on his form in this match too. He slammed unbeaten 84* runs from 53 deliveries with 8 fours and 3 sixes.

de Villiers scored his fourth T20 century in 50 balls, the fifth batsman to score a 100 in BPL 2019. His 100* runs included 8 fours and 6 maximums.

Earlier, Dhaka Dynamites put on 186/6 on board after deciding to bat first in their first game in Chattogram. Openers Hazratullah Zazai (17) and Sunil Narine (28) got starts but could not convert them to big scores.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with a 12-ball 25. Rony Talukdar top-scored for Dhaka with his second half-century of the season, 52 runs off 32 balls including 6 fours and a six. In the end, Kieron Pollard’s unbeaten 37* from 23 got Dhaka to 186.
