Gayle and Thomas star as Windies humiliate England
Even as the No.1 ranked ODI side was devastatingly impressive against the Caribbeans in the tour, they couldn’t manage to wrap up the series on a convincing note, following a 2-1 Test series defeat. The third ODI fixture was abandoned without a ball being bowled and England shocked the Windies in the fourth match to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
Oshame Thomas ripped through England’s defence
However, Windies ensured to bounce back in style and sucker punched England as the visitors were bundled out for a paltry 113. With Alex Hales and Jos Buttler chipped in with 20s, there was hardly anything to boast their performances as Windies’ Oshane Thomas proved to be a game-changer for the team for his staggering five-wicket haul.
While Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite picked up 2 wickets each and Sheldon Cottrell took one wicket, in what was a complete bowling performance by the Windies. Chasing 113 is not a tricky score as the team needs to play some good cricket to get past the time instead of panicking and Windies did exactly the same. Like Caribbeans’ style, they spiced up the match with such ease.
Gayle storm decimated England
Chris Gayle paced up the innings ever so well and his boundary conversion rate just dominated the numbers of runs he ran between the wickets. His 27-ball 77 was mind-blowing and with 9 sixes and 5 fours to his name, 74 runs came in boundaries itself, which sums up his total dominance.
England showed some tempo with the ball by picking some wickets. Mark Wood picked 2 while Chris Woakes claimed one to his name. In the end, it was Darren Bravo and Shemron Hetmyer who helped the team steer past the finishing line.
