Sohail Tanvir – the veteran Pakistani recruit of Guyana Amazon Warriors assembled an unbeaten cameo knock to cruise the team to a nail biting win in the penultimate delivery of the match against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Warner Park, in the nineteenth match of the Caribbean Premier League 2018.

Tanvir, 37 off 20 balls, went for 2 fours and 2 sixes in his innings when Patriots needed 58 off last 5.1 overs; off them he took 16 in one Sheldon Cottrell over with one down the ground six followed by a third man boundary.

The subsequent Ben Cutting over also triggered for a six and a four by Roshan Primus, left Patriots to score 30 off last 18 deliveries.

The 18th over was a rather callous one as well as fortunate one for the Patriots who received four wide deliveries and calculated 11 runs in total losing Primus.

The win at the end took Amazon Warriors to the second spot in the point table.

In the first session, South African spinner Imran Tahir’s four-fer restricted the hosts to 168 runs from twenty over.

Chris Gayle rot the flyer for the Patriots, constructed the 71 run opening stand with Evin Lewis. Striking three sixes and three boundaries, the Caribbean giant topped the innings with 40 off 27.

Whatever skipper’s decision to hand the ball to Tahir worked out immediately as the South African spinner uprooted three wickets in successive overs to strange the opposition batting.

The Patriots were tumbled down to 97 for 4 from the position of 71 without loss.

Bangladesh middle order batsman Mahmudullah Riyad became the fourth victim of Tahir taking 4 for 22 runs in 4 overs.

Ryad Emrit, captaining the Warriors, is happy with the outcome, said, “Good start for the team and for me as captain. In the middle overs, we were good. We went for 37 in 2 overs at some point, but we did well in the middle. We know the type of players Gayle and Lewis are. We stumbled, myself included, and I take full responsibility for that. Tahir is full of energy, and it’s always good to have leg-spinners in your team.”

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots 168/7 (20 overs)

Chris Gayle 40, Anton Devcich 35, Evin Lewis 28
