Watch: Handscomb dismissed by Valente’s one-handed stunner
In the twentieth match of the Marsh One Day Cup, Cameron Valente took a stunning one-handed ripper to send Victoria captain Peter Handscomb back to the pavilion.
In the second delivery of the 28th over of Victoria’s innings who were in chase, captain Peter Handscomb, batting at 87, faced a short delivery from Kane Richardson outside off-stump.
Handscomb looked apparently looked confident in making that particular shot, flicked the ball towards offside. Within the thirty-year circle between mid-off and extra cover, Cameron Valente who was fielding at mid-off, ran to his left and jumped into the air while spectacularly grabbed the catch extending his left hand.
Puzzled spectators took time to realize what had just happened in the middle but when they do, shower of clapping and applause poured over Valente for a superman like effort.
Commentator Mark Howard said, “You will not see a better catch than that, Valente takes to the sky like superman without the cape. One-handed brilliance. And Handscomb shakes his head and says ‘how can I be out.”
As of the match, Victoria required 54 runs in 42 balls during the time of the report. Pacer Daniel Worrall claimed two wickets of Victoria whose chase was based on a solid hundred from opener Aaron Finch. He is batting at 113 so far.
Earlier South Australia captain Alex Carey won the toss and chose to bat first. Led by Callum Ferguson’s 122 and Tom Cooper’s 81, the South Australia reached to 322/4 in their 50 overs.
