Watch: Indian players give farewell to Gayle?
Chris Gayle played a firing innings of 72 off just 41balls in his likely final ODI against India in the third and the final game.
The universe boss Chris Gayle didn’t announce his retirement from ODIs before the game, but after his dismissal, all the Indian players ran towards him to congratulate him and the dressing gave a standing ovation. All these gives an indication that it was Gayle’s last ever ODI for West Indies.
After winning the toss, the hosts elected to bat first at the Queen’s Park Oval and the openers Gayle and Evin Lewis created absolute havoc on the field as they scored 100 runs in only 9 overs.
Gayle scored yet another fifty after smashing 8 fours and 5 sixes while Lewis missed a well-deserved fifty as he departed for 43 after Chahal gave into the attack.
The universe boss was only 2 sixes away from hitting most sixes in a calender year. After the dismissal, rain interrupted the game and the match still didn’t resume. If West Indies don’t bat any more, the 20-over DLS target for India will be 194. The umpires are currently on the field for an inspection.
