It was a total team effort: Shakib
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan described the Test win against Windies in Chittagong as a total team effort and particularly gave credit to debutant Nayeem Hasan and Mominul Haque.
Bangladesh won the match convincingly by 64 runs, it was their third Test win against the Caribbeans. And the Bangladesh captain hailed the batting efforts of Taijul Islam and Nayeem which turned out to be a deciding factor in the end. The duo built 65 runs stand in the 9th wicket.
Shakib said in the post-match presentation:
“He [Nayeem] was brilliant in the first innings. We all know that he has the capability to pick up wickets. It was a team effort, the contribution from Taijul and Nayeem with the bat in the first innings was tremendous. Mominul [Haque] batted brilliantly. Small partnerships like 20-30 runs were vital on this wicket and I think we won those small moments.”
It was a special Test for the captain himself too as he finally returned to cricket after suffering from a long-term injury and he reached to 200 Test wickets and became the fastest to the double of 200 wickets and 3000 runs. However, Shakib is not bothered by breaking records and wants to contribute to the team as long as he can.
“I always feel that whenever I play, I want to contribute to the team in whatever way I can. Few more years to come and many more successes, hopefully.”
The second Test will begin on 30th November at the Mirpur Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium.
