Sri Lanka break India curse in Nidahas Trophy opener

Dinesh Chandimal opted to bowl first after winning the toss. India lost skipper Rohit Sharma in the very first over, but that didn’t kept  the inform batsman Shikhar Dhawan silent and an innings which started slowly ended with a lightning knock of 90 runs off just 49 balls including 6 fours and 6 sixes.

Young star Rishab Pant’s 23 off 23 and Dinesh Karthik’s little cameo in the end helped India to post a big total of 174 runs in their 50 overs. Chameera was the leading wicket taker for the Lions who picked up 2 wickets.

In reply, Sri Lankan openers failed to give their side a good start but after their departure, Kusal Mendis who just returned after recovering from injury smashed the Indian bowlers all over the park with Shardul Thakur being punished the most. The bowler conceded 27 runs in his first over.

It was a sweet comeback for the left hand batsman as he scored 66 off just 37 balls but after his departure and some lost of quick wickets, the Lions were in some sort of pressure. In the end, Thisara Perera got the job which he is best at! The dynamic finisher finished off the game and Sri Lanka won the first match comfortably by 5 wickets.
