New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill was in good touch and unfortunately he lost his wicket in a bizarre manner in the form of hit wicket. Guptill lost his balance while playing a pull shot and in process, took out the stumps to get dismissed hit-wicket. Therefore, the Kiwi opener became the 10th batsman in the history of World Cup to get dismissed by hit-wicket.

Guptill’s hit-wicket became ICC World Cup 2019’s first such dismissal. Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq was the last batsman, before Guptill, to get out by hit-wicket. Misbah had suffered the unfortunate dismissal in the 2015 World Cup match between Pakistan and Ireland.
