A thrilling last over finish from Mahmudullah Riyad has taken Bangladesh to a two-wicket win in the sixth T20I against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Bangladesh will take on India in the Nidahas Trophy final.
Sri Lanka posted 159/7 after being sent in to bat first by Bangladesh. The hosts made a poor start to their innings. Shakib Al Hasan made his return in the match with a wicket in his second over. Mustafizur Rahman’s sizzling spell got Sri Lanka 5/41 in 8.1 overs.
In-form batsman Kusal Mendis was back in the hut. But the other Kusal, Perera recovered early blows with skipper Thisara Perera. At one stage, they started to step on the gas and runs came easily in the second half of the game.
Mustafizur was hammered in his last two overs. Kusal Perera got his 10th fifty. He slammed 40-ball 61 including 7 fours and a six. Part-timer Soumya Sarkar got his wicket in the 19th over to break 97-run stand.
Thisara reached his maiden T20I fifty. He scored a handy 58 off 37 deliveries with 3 fours and 3 sixes to propel Sri Lanka to 159.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was economical with the ball for his 1/16 in four overs. Surprisingly, left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu didn’t bowl a single over.
Chasing 160, Bangladesh lost the wicket of Liton Das early to Akila Dananjaya. Sabbir Rahman was promoted to no.3 at got a good start of 16 runs but Akila sent him back.
Bangladesh’s key man Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal built on the innings steadily. They put on 64 runs for the third-wicket to keep the Tigers in the game. Mushfiqur departed scoring 28.

Tamim brought up his 5th fifty but he want straightaway after getting the milestone. He made 50 off 42 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Sri Lanka got themselves back in the match with quick wickets.
Skipper Shakib couldn’t do much as his dismissal put even more pressure on Bangladesh. Although Mahmudullah Riyad kept Bangladesh’s hopes alive. 12 runs were required in the last over. Isuru Udana was the bowler to bowl.
Mustafizur was given two bouncers. He was run out at the bowler’s end on the second ball. There was a confusion regarding those two bouncers as Bangladesh were asking for a no ball.
Mahmudullah hit an one-handed four over covers on the third ball. The next ball, he scampered for a two. The fifth ball was on his pads and that sailed away for a six at square leg which gave Bangladesh a two-wicket thrilling victory with one ball remaining.
Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 43 runs from 18 deliveries hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.
