Watch: MS Dhoni fuming with anger after wrongly given out LBW

Yesterday we had a cracker of a contest between two best teams so far in the ongoing Asia Cup which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates. India and Afghanistan were facing off against each other at the Dubai international cricket stadium. Both teams topped their respective groups in the first stage of the tournament.

MS Dhoni

Batting first, Afghanistan made a healthy total of 252 on the back of their opening batsman Mohammad Shehzad’s brilliant century and their all-rounder Mohammad Nabi’s blistering half-century towards the end of the innings. India started the chase finely with their openers scoring breezy fifties but then the umpiring blunders hit them one by one which eventually costed the match.

KL Rahul used up the review for a plumb LBW of himself. After that Indian stand-in skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was given out LBW when a part-time spinner of Afghanistan, Javed Ahmadi trapped him in front but the ball was clearly going over the stumps on which Dhoni was not happy at all, he even looked a bit angry for giving wrongly out at such a crucial time of the chase.

When Rahul got out in the 21st over of the chase, he asked his non-striking partner Dinesh Karthik whether he should take a review or not. Karthik told him that he is most probably out but Rahul went on for a review may be for an egoistic issue and wasted it. And that’s why when Dhoni was given out five overs later; he didn’t have any review left to challenge the umpire’s decision.

In the 40th over, Dinesh Karthik was also given out LBW and guess what, the same umpire got it wrong once again. The ball was missing the stumps according to the Hawk-Eye. But India didn’t have any review left. Even Kedar Jadhav got runout in an unlucky manner to sum the things off for India which clearly showed it was not their day at all.

The last controversy of the match happened when in the final over. Ravindra Jadeja hit a boundary to Rashid Khan. It looked like the ball landed on the boundary cushion and was a six but the third umpire gave it a four. Eventually, the match ended in a thrilling tie. But we have to appreciate team India who was playing with five reserved players resting their regular top five players against Afghanistan to test their bench strength. Despite all these changes and so many decision going against them, they fought hard till the end.
