Wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim who has been criticized for not being able to perform well in international T20 cricket in recent times, has answered to the critics in style as his 35-ball 72 run heroic knock guided Tigers to historical win on Sunday to throw the Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series open at the Premadasa Stadium.
Chasing a mountain target of 215,A strong start was crucial to Bangladesh’s hopes and they got precisely that from both openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das gave them a flying start as they added 74 runs for the opening partnership inside six overs. But after their departure it was all Mushfiqur show.
Needing nine off the last over, the wicket-keeper batsman steered the third ball of the final over from Thisara Perera to the third man fence and fittingly ended the match by flicking a full ball to mid-wicket. After completing the run, Mushfiqur celebrated with a snake dance, both hands raised to form the hood. Before that, when the equation had become 16 off 8 balls Mushfiqur walloped a monumental six over mid-wicket off a Nuwan Pradeep slower-ball full toss. He hit five fours and four maximums in his blistering 72-run match winning knock.
