Watch: Mushfiqur’s marvelous knock of 200 runs against Sri Lanka


Mushfiqur Rahim had become the first Bangladeshi batsman to score double hundred in an innings of Test match. This right-handed batsman of Bangladesh, smashed double century against the host Sri Lanka in Galle during the first Test of two-match series in 2012/13.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka declared their first innings on  570 runs by losing 4 wickets in the series opener. In reply of Sri Lanka’s big total, Bangladesh cricket team lost their top four batsmen within adding 177 runs on the board.

Then Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim took the responsibility on their shoulders and started to dominate over the bowlers of Sri Lanka. This two batsmen of visiting side had added 277 runs in the fifth wicket partnership and created the chance to give fight back to the host. Although Mohammad Ashraful got out after scoring his career best 190 runs, Mushfiqur Rahim continued his sensible batting and slammed double century. He smashed 22 fours and 1 six to become the first Bangladeshi batsmen to get the sweet taste of smashing double hundred in Tests. After scoring 200 runs eventually he was trapped in lbw by Kulasekara. However, his 200 alongside Ashraful’s timely knock of 190 and Nasir Hossain’s century helped the visitors to take lead against Sri Lanka in the first innings and save the Test match. To be noted, Bangladesh had managed to score 638 for losing all wickets in the first innings which is still remaining  the highest total in an innings for the Tigers in history of Tests.
