It’s the third time the Tigers have qualified for Asia Cup finals (second instance in ODI Asia Cups).

Bangladesh elected to bat first at the toss and made three changes including Soumya Sarkar, Mominul Haque and Rubel Hossain in the XI. Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out with fractured finger.

The top-order were left clueless to Pakistani seamers as Soumya, Mominul Haque and Liton Das failed terribly. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Junaid Khan troubled the Bangladeshis.

It was a redo of Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match when Bangladesh lost early wickets and then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun doing the rebuilding process. They took the momentum away from Pakistan to their favour.

The duo put on a mammoth stand of 144 runs for the fourth-wicket which positioned Bangladesh pretty well. Mithun impressed with his second fifty in the tournament under pressure. Mushfiqur continued to show good form with the bat as he also reached his half-century.

The partnership was broken by Hasan Ali, who caught and bowled Mithun comfortably. Mithun made 60 from 84 balls. No.6 batsman Imrul Kayes didn’t stay longer for his 9.

Mushfiqur, on verge of another century, was dismissed for a run short of three figures by Afridi. He scored 116-ball 99 runs including 9 boundaries, becoming the first Bangladeshi to get out on 99 runs in international cricket.

Pakistan finished off Bangladesh’s innings for 239 runs in 48.5 overs as lower-order couldn’t contribute much. Only Mahmudullah Riyad had a reasonable score – 25. Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza made run-a-ball 13.

Seamer Junaid bagged four wickets for 19 runs on his return to the side.

Opening bowlers Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman helped Bangladesh make a good start with the ball taking three wickets for 18 runs early in Pakistan’s run chase. Imam-ul-Haq and experienced Shoaib Malik then put on 67-run partnership.

Malik was dismissed 30 off 51 by Rubel. Mashrafe took a stunning catch to dismiss Malik. Meanwhile Asif Ali hit 47-ball 31 during a 71-run seventh-wicket stand with Imam.

In the 41st over, Mahmudullah finally got rid of Imam, who made 83 runs from 105 deliveries hitting just 2 fours and a six. Pakistan slipped down from the match as they could not score more than 202/9. Shaheen did enough to deny Mustafizur a five-wicket haul.

Mustafizur scalped 4 for 43 in his 10 overs. Miraz took two wickets. Soumya took the only wicket of Shadab Khan while Mashrafe remained wicketless.

India and Bangladesh will take on each other in the final in Dubai on Friday (September 28).
