Pakistan win a thriller against New Zealand in series opener
Pakistan’s phenomenal form in the T20 format continues as they win the first T20I match against New Zealand in a thrilling fashion by 2 runs in Abu Dhabi.
Winning the toss, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed elected to bat first. Both the openers failed to cross the double figure mark and Kiwis were off to a good start. Asif Ali played a short cameo of 24 runs from 21 balls before departing to de Grandhomme.
Mohammad Hafeez (45) continued his good form and the captain played the most crucial knock of 34 runs from just 26 balls which guided the men in green to a fighting total of 148 runs.
In reply, Glenn Phillips departed early for 12, but Collin Munro on the other side hit bowlers all over the park. His innings of 58 runs include 6 fours and 3 massive sixes.
New Zealand were well in with a chance to chase down the total comfortably, but it all fell apart after the dismissal of Munro. Imad Wasim got the wicket of skipper Kane Williamson in the next over while Shadab Khan departed de Grandhomme with a brilliant direct hit.
Wickets were tumbling at one end and Ross Taylor was fighting all alone. But in the end, his unbeaten 42 runs wasn’t enough to pull off a victory and Hasan Ali, who picked up 3 wickets made sure that Pakistan win their 7th T20I match in a row.
