Watch: Pant smashes consecutive sixes off Sodhi
Rishabh Pant is not in the Indian team set up currently as the team management decided to go with KL Rahul in Pant’s absence as the latter was ruled out midway through the ongoing tour with an injury.
However, Pant’s injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise for someone like KL Rahul who delivered the much-needed amends as a wicket-keeper batsman and there is absolutely no reason to exclude KL Rahul from the team because he has been super good in his role.
Case in point, Rishabh Pant brought the best out of himself during the three-day warm-up game against New Zealand which ended in a pulsating draw. After scoring only a paltry seven in the first innings, Pant upped his ante and scored a quickfire 70 in the second innings. Pant hit four fours and as many sixes in his 65-ball knock.
The openers Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw walked in to bat on Sunday. They looked pretty good yesterday. However, Daryl Mitchell sent Prithvi Shaw back into the hut. Shaw ended up scoring 39 off 31.
Coming to bat at No. 3, Shubman Gill disappointed again as he was trapped right in front by Mitchell for only 8. Pant came in next and then took the attack to the host bowlers. He helped India score 150 by smashing Ish Sodhi for two consecutive sixes.
