Russell powers Dhaka Dynamites to final of BPL 2019
In the second qualifier of the Bangladesh Premier League 2019, Dhaka Dynamites have defeated Rangpur Riders by 5 wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Fate dwindled the Dyanmites a lot in this competition. Once they were up above everyone in the point table, then submerged into the bottom half with consecutive losses. And then it all rocketed high for them. Going through two hurdles, Dhaka Dynamites have yet again reached into the final of the Bangladesh Premier League.
All those seemed uncertain in this particular match for the home team were swayed away by mighty Andre Russell – the powerhouse of Windies batting showcased what he meant for T20s in an innings fully packed with only sixes.
He stayed 19 balls in the crease just to ensure the final for Dhaka Dynamites; took into the milestone in style smashing the fifth sixth over long on.
During the coin slot in the qualifier number two, Mashrafe bin Mortaza said they would also have decided to bowl first had they won the toss. Nevertheless luck did not co-operate with Rangpur Riders’ skipper as they were sent to bat first in the drier wicket of the home cricket.
Precisely or non-precisely all eyes, whether it would the alliance of Rangpur or not, did rest on Chris Gayle.
The Jamaican giant, having been running a fragile show of batting this season in BPL, was expected to smack hard in the do or die match but Rubel Hossain, in the day of his excellency, brought the greater joy for the Dynamites when he left Gayle dwindling in decision making, was caught from behind in the initiation of fifth over.
Rubel has had three more wickets before or after that, all of were prime batsmen of Rangpur Riders – Rilee Rossouw, Ravi Bopara and Nahidul Islam, upon whom the team could bank on to pile a formidable target in front of Dhaka Dynamites.
Bopara’s impelling score was the only shiny part in the deflated Rangpur Riders’ innings. Wicket keeper Mohammad Mithun also knocked 2 fours and 2 sixes to reach into a 27 ball 38, the second highest in the innings where seven batsmen failed to reach into the double digits.
Rangpur Riders 142 all out (19.4 overs)
Ravi Bopara 49, Mohammad Mithun 38, Nadif Chowdhury 27
Rubel Hossain 4/23, Qazi Anik 2/21, Andre Russell 2/31
Dhaka Dynamites 147/5 (16.4 overs)
Andre Russell 40*, Rony Talukdar 35, Shakib Al Hasan 23
Mashrafe bin Mortaza 2/32, Benny Howell 1/17
