Ranji Trophy of this season is now in the knock out phase and is inching towards the finals. In the fourth Quarterfinal game, Kerala took on Gujarat in Krishnagiri Stadium, Kerala.

Gujarat won the toss and elected to bowl first. After being asked to bat first, Kerala managed to score only 185 runs in their first innings for the loss of nine wickets. Kerala were one player short in the first innings as Sanju Samson went retired hurt after being hit on his fingers.

In reply, Gujarat had a terrible first inning as they managed to score only 162 runs in their first innings and felt 23 runs short of Kerala’s total. After taking a decent lead, Kerala scored 171 runs in their second innings and set a target of 194 for Gujarat to proceed to Semi-final.

But Gujarat had another terrible inning with the bat as they were bowled out for only 81 runs in the chase and Kerala won the game by 113 runs.

During the second innings of Kerala, Sanju Samson gained the attention of everyone as he came to bat at the no.11 position with a broken finger as he was hit in the first innings and went retired hurt.

Samson was facing Gujarat’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel whose straight one was on the line to hit the stumps but the injured batsman put down his bat just in time. But naked eyes suggested that the ball had hit Samson’s pad in front of the wicket though he had a clear edge.
