We witnessed high-flying sixes, flerry of fours, good bowling, terrific catches and good fielding skills but the season caught one mesmerising moment during the rain-curtailed match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.

Shreyas Gopal claimed a sensational hat-trick and stole the spotlight by dismissing Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis.

Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Interestingly, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers came out to bat and lit the track on fire. Kohli belted Varun Aaron’s bowling by chipping in with two sixes in the first two balls and then handed over the strike to AB de Villiers.

The latter smashed two boundaries and the team got 23 runs in the first over itself. Shreyas Gopal was given the ball to bowl the second over. He was smashed by Virat Kohli for 10 runs in the first two balls (six followed up with a four). Kohli then took two runs.

With an urge to score one more big shot, Kohli went for a big hit but couldn’t get the elevation as he was caught by Liam Livingstone at the long-on region. Shockingly, in the next ball, AB de Villiers too got out when he too tried for a big shot as he was caught by Riyan Parag at extra-cover.

The crowd remained at pin-drop silence. It was a hat-trick ball for Shreyas Gopal. He held his nerves quite well and then bowled a loopy delvivery outside-off. Stoinis had to go for a shot but he was caught by Steve Smith in his safe pair of hands in mid-off region. What a day for Shreyas Gopal!
