When taking hattrick is a mighty task, is it possible to take two hattricks in one match? Well, this question doesn’t have any value any more as Australian speed star Mitchell Starc has created history by taking two hattricks in one match.
Strac, who just returned after a long term break due to injury has played his final match for North South Wales (NSW) ahead of Australia’s Ashes campaign.
He sealed a 171 run victory for the team and completed his second hat-trick of NSW’s JLT Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia on Tuesday.
No bowler had ever previously taken two hat-tricks in the one Sheffield Shield match, and it has only been done on seven previous occasions in first-class cricket.
Having removed Jason Behrendorff, David Moody and Simon Mackin in the Warriors’ first innings to complete his first career hat-trick, the left-armer eyed the unfathomable on Tuesday when he removed Behrendorff and Moody off the final two deliveries of his 15th over.
Western Australia’s Jono Wells in Starc’s 16th over then edged to NSW captain Steve Smith at first slip to complete the 2nd hattrick of the match and send the reds into rapturous celebration.
The Ashes series will start on 23rd November and Starc will be making his return to International cricket after a long time. After this history creating performance, Australia will be hoping Starc will hunt the English batsmen down too.
