Watch: Tamim defends Ngidi’s wayward throw, escapes from danger
Cricket is a game of raw emotions without the shadow of any doubt. When a game slightly tilts towards the opposition team, chances are high that one can vent out their frustration by making some goof-ups on the field, which is deemed contrary to the spirit of the gentlemen’s game.
During the fifth fixture of the ongoing summer’s showpiece event between South Africa and Bangladesh at The Oval, South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi unexpectedly went for a wayward throw at Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal.
The incident took place on the second last ball of the 7th over when the elegant left-handed batsman middled a straight delivery back to the bowler itself.
Sensing this as a run-out opportunity, Lungi Ngidi hurled a sharp throw which directly ended up at Iqbal’s body but the latter defended the fast ball in a split second and had no other option. Had it not been for his sheer presence of mind, the story could have been a different one altogether.
What Iqbal did was not debatable but fair. In a bid to escape from danger, Iqbal stopped the ball with his bat.
Post the incident, Iqbal expressed shock at Ngidi’s reaction for this act and his gesture suggested that he had never went out of the crease.
Having got battered for a couple of boundaries off Soumya Sarkar’s bowling in the same over, maybe Ngidi couldn’t control his emotions.

This is how Twitterati reacted:
Lungi Ngidi should do that when bowling to Virat Kohli, he would have got the right response.
No marks for fair play
