Australia started the day with 109/2 in 30 overs with captain Steve Smith and deputy David Warner at the crease. They extended the third-wicket partnership to 130 runs as the visitors were hoping for a win.

Warner smashed his 19th Test century off 121 balls, his second ton in Asia. He didn’t trouble the Bangladeshi bowlers much after getting his hundred as he was given lbw against Shakib Al Hasan which eventually broke the stand. Warner made 135-ball 112 runs hitting 16 fours and a six.

The Australian collapse started soon. Smith was caught behind to Shakib, trying to cut on 37. Taijul Islam joined the party with the wicket of Peter Handscomb (15). It was his 50th Test scalp.

Matthew Wade and Ashton Agar fell to Shakib and Taijul just before lunch and the game was all set for a thriller.

Australia went to lunch on 199/7 in 57 overs, needing 66 runs to win. Bangladesh were aiming at three more wickets.

As soon as the play resumed in the second session, Shakib sent back Glenn Maxwell for 14 in the very first ball. Shakib got his 17th five-wicket haul in Tests, second in this Test. He became the first Bangladeshi to take ten wickets in a match twice.

Nathan Lyon tried to annoy Bangladesh fielders with sweep shot but in the end that cost him against Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Injured Josh Hazlewood came in to support Pat Cummins. Cummins struck 3 fours and 2 sixes in his 55-ball unbeaten 33 which gave some hope for Australia.

Needing 21 runs to win, Hazlewood was given lbw to Taijul in the fifth ball of the 71st over. Australia were bowled out for 244 runs in the second innings which confirmed Bangladesh’s win in the first Test. This 20-run victory is the least margin of win for Bangladesh in Tests.

It’s the first victory for Bangladesh against Australia in five clashes in Test matches. Overall, this is their 10th win in 101 matches.
