Yasir-Mushfiqur power Chittagong to a comfortable victory
Playing their first match at the Sylhet International Stadium, Chittagong Vikings posted the highest score of this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to register a comfortable victory against the struggling Khulna Titans.
Khulna Titans’ horrendous journey in the tournament continues and Chittagong added more misery to it in match number 22. Mahmudullah Riyad, the skipper of Khulna opted to bowl first keeping the dew factor in mind.
But it didn’t matter to Chittagong as they were off to a flying start after the early fall of Cameron Delport (17). Mohammad Shahzad played yet another blinder of a knock. With 3 fours and 3 sixes, he scored 33 off just 17 balls.
However, the main party was thrown by the locals. Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali hit the bowlers all over the park and scored fifties. David Wiese picked up both the wickets of the dangerous duo.
Chittagong still had a lot of batting attack in their tank and it was Danushka Shanaka, who took the bowlers in the cleaners in the death overs. With 3 fours and 4 sixes, Shanaka’s unbeaten 42 guided Chittagong to a massive score of 214.
In reply, the in-form duo Paul Stirling (0) and Junaid Siddique (12) departed early. Skipper Mahmudullah gave some hope as he scored 50 off just 26 balls. But there was no support from the other end and wickets kept falling.
Wiese, who picked up two wickets with the ball played a cameo of 40 from 20. But in the end, it wasn’t enough to outscore the massive score and Khula fell short of 26 runs to swallow yet another defeat.
