Babar Hayat starred with a 33 ball 65 as Vancouver Knights registered their first win in the Global T20 League, Canada. At the Maple Leaf North West Ground in King City, Vancouver Knights surpassed Winnipeg Hawks with a comfortable six wicket win.
The second outing of disgraced former Australian skipper Steven Smith stood for only 6 balls when he scored 4 runs. Winnipeg Hawks, after settling to bat first losing the toss, lost their top order batsmen in depreciated scores. They were 5 down at 58 before Dwayne Bravo and Tion Webster formed a 54 run sixth wicket partnership.
Webster was the highest scorer of the team, missed the half century mark for only a single run despite being unbeaten. His stormy 34 ball innings contained 5 shots of sixes and a four.
Bravo also hurried passed in his innings, struck 3 fours and 4 sixes in his 30 run innings played in 17 deliveries.
In the second innings, Ali Khan started aggressive bowling for Winnipeg Hawks taking two wickets of Vancouver Knights too early in the innings. Ali Khan knocked down Chris Gayle in a 4 ball duck.
The second over of Ali Khan brought him the wicket of Chadwick Walton. The wicket keeper batsman was caught by Dwayne Bravo scoring 13 off 8 balls with the help of two fours.
The early departure of prominent faces did not affect Vancouver Knights’ innings though – Babar Hayat and Rassie van der Dussen put up a giant 97 run fourth wicket partnership steering Vancouver to the comfortable win at last.
Babar departed in the sixteenth over before Andre Russel pushed Vancouver Knights to victory blasting hard during the ultimate overs. The Caribbean hitter struck 21 runs in just 7 deliveries; one of his sixes landed outside the field.
