WC 2019: Dinesh Karthik reveals his favourite batting position
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the ICC World Cup 2019 squad and Dinesh Karthik was picked ahead of Rishabh Pant. It is no doubt that experience comes into play here and even Chief selector MSK Prasad said that Dinesh Karthik has lots of experience to play in pressure situations.
In a recent chat with The Hindu, Karthik confessed, “Yes, I was anxious. Playing in the World Cup is big and everyone wants to be part of the experience. And after the team came out, it was both a feeling of relief and happiness.”
Karthik is well aware of the fact that he will come to play only if MS Dhoni is injured and Karthik himself is happy about MS Dhoni keeping wickets in all matches. “M.S. Dhoni should keep wickets in all matches, and I would come into the picture only if he gets injured.
“It is as a specialist batsman that I have a better chance of making the eleven,” he said.
Capable of batting at No.4: DK
Dinesh Karthik believes he is the right man to solve the team’s conundrum. “I am capable of batting at No. 4, from where I can build an innings. I have performed the role in the past. I have also been coming later down the order and donned the role of a finisher.”
The 33-year-old Karthik can rotate the strike, keep a calm head and also unleash the big blows targeting specific bowlers. “Clarity of thought is very important to execute plans in these situations,” he said.
DK is confident of his team players for the upcoming event. “I think we have a very good team and should do very well.”
Karthik believes that he still has a lot of cricket left in him and also clarified that this will not be his last World Cup. “I am training hard and performing. I have not thought about ending my career in the next five to six years.”
