We had the opportunity but couldn’t utilize it – Mahmudullah

Prior to the start of the series, no one would have believed that Bangladesh would end the three-match T20 series at the 2-1 scoreline and fight till the last moment. Even there had been a chance for Bangladesh to seal the series. That’s why losing it in their own failure is upsetting Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Royad.

Bangladesh were on the verge of winning at one point in the last match by chasing 175 runs against India in Nagpur. The hopes of Bangladesh were shining on a pair of Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Mohammad Mithun. But the team lost their momentum fully after losing the Naim-Mithun pair.

Naim was dismissed after playing a magnificent innings of 81 runs off just 48 balls. Bangladesh lost their regularly after his dismissal that from 110/2, they ended their innings at 144/10.

Without Naim and Mithun (27) no one were able to reach the double digit score. Three batsmen were out scoring ‘golden duck’.

So Mahmudullah expressed his sorrow after the match and said that they just threw away a golden opportunity.

“We had the opportunity in batting. The way Naim and Mithun were batted was incredible. But in the middle over we lost some wickets which cost us the match. At one point, we needed 50 runs off 30 balls. But we lost that opportunity. “

“The way the guys fought in the series was great. We got a chance to win the series. After winning the first match we had two chances, but we could not utilize it.”
