We have respect but no fear for India – Soumya Sarkar
Jannatul Naym Pieal
Soumya Sarkar, the new batting sensation of Bangladesh Cricket made a decent start of his longer-version career when he scored 33 in both the innings on his Test debut against Pakistan in Khulna. However like the other Tiger willowers, he was another disappointment as he could score only 3 and 1 respectively in the Dhaka Test where the hosts eventually suffered a big margin defeat of 328-run.
“In the first Test, I got dismissed in both the innings after getting well set at the crease. I neither could get set nor score in that particular match. Now I am trying to get the proper mindset of staying long at the crease in Test cricket. I am working on how to leave the ball and how to survive for a long time.”
The final and the title-deciding round of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) was kind of a mixture of success and failure for Soumya. Despite knocked out without troubling the scorers in the first innings, he made a glorious comeback with hitting an excellent 127-run innings.
“I was trying to get stick with my own batting but couldn’t manage to succeed in the first innings. But it was a great relief when things worked in the second innings for me.”
India will land here in Dhaka on 7th of June for a series consists of one-off Test (in Fatullah) and 3 ODIs (all in Dhaka). However, the 22-year-old batting all-rounder said that he is still not thinking about his opposition. But also added that he has plan to work on facing the Indian spinners.
Soumya believes if the Tigers can continue their good run from the Pakistan series, they will be able to do well against the Men in Blue as well. Soumya concluded with saying that they have respect for the on-song Indian team but no fear for them at all.
